When Saif Ali Khan was attacked last week at his Bandra residence, he took an autorickshaw for urgently reaching Lilavati Hospital.

Despite access to luxury vehicles, Saif found himself in an unexpected situation, and Bhajan Singh, an auto-rickshaw driver, became an unsung hero of the night.

Bhajan Singh recounted the night, saying his only priority was to get Saif to the hospital swiftly. He recalled, while injured and bleeding, Saif calmly asked Singh how long it would take to reach the hospital. Singh estimated it took around 7–8 minutes to arrive at Lilavati Hospital. Singh only realised he had transported a Bollywood star upon reaching the hospital. Saif was accompanied by his son Taimur.

Singh clarified in an interview with ANI that he did not expect any payment or acknowledgement from Saif’s family despite no contact being made since the incident. “I was just doing my duty as a human being,” Singh stated.

The attacker, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, has been remanded to police custody for five days. He faces charges including robbery and house-breaking under Indian law.

The 54-year-old actor was stabbed multiple times in the attack, after which he underwent a five-hour surgery at nearby Lilavati Hospital. Doctors reported that Saif is recuperating well and is expected to be discharged soon.
