B. Raman Pillai, a well-known lawyer, has been in the headlines after actor Dileep was found not guilty of assault and kidnapping in 2017. Following this, a widespread discussion has been doing round on social media about Raman's role, techniques, and considerable expertise as a defense lawyer.

A lawyer who has been around for a while and isn't really well-liked

Raman Pillai is prominently known for handling big, private legal concern in Kerala. Over the years, he has defended a number of well-known criminal cases, including ones where people were accused of murder and rape. People say he is strict when he asks questions, has a strong memory, and knows a lot about the law.

Many people have disagreed with his work. Some of the people who have sued him and some of the people who don't like him say that he uses strong defense methods, like reportedly frightening witnesses and "shaming survivors" in sexual assault cases.

Pillai's Defense of Dileep: "Fake Evidence"

Raman claimed in public that the prosecution hadn't revealed any important evidence after the December 2025 verdict that found Dileep not guilty of all charges. He also added that the accusations against his client were "fake" and "made up," and that there was a plan to set him up.

The acclaimed lawyer alleged that the police on intentionally made the trial last longer until it was over. He even remarked at one point that the least experienced cop should be in charge of the probe to make sure Dileep wasn't biased.

Defense Strategy: Keep going, keep the pressure on, and wait.

Some of Pillai's opponents thought that asking a lot of questions and really probing witnesses made things take longer. Two special public prosecutors fled the trial in the midst because they thought the court was unfair and the attitude was "uncongenial."

People in courtrooms know that Raman Pillai can shift from calm to angry in a couple of seconds. He sometimes yells at witnesses to persuade them to stop talking, and other times he uses violent cross-examinations. Many lawyers say he does a terrific job in court and is very good at what he does, but some think his methods are inappropriate, especially because he has been accused of them in a lot of cases.

A Job That Involves Defending Important Cases

Raman Pillai has defended clients in cases that were quite controversial in the past. In some of these trials, the issue has been more than just legal; it's also been moral. It has been hard to represent famous or powerful people in big crime trials because the media and public opinion are so mixed up.
