Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal’s film Empuraan has been in the headlines for quite some time, and after months of debate, allegations, and heated discussions, Prithviraj has finally spoken out about the controversy.

This comes as director Major Ravi continues to face criticism for rumours that he is working with Mohanlal on a future project. Major Ravi had previously stated that the actor had only seen the movie after its premiere and that Mohanlal was upset about the Empuraan controversy.

In a conversation with Manorama News, Prithviraj clarified that the film does not represent his political views and that the script had been shared with both Mohanlal and the producers well before filming began.

“If I want to express my politics, I can do it on social media. I am not making this film to express my political opinions,” he said.

He further confirmed that the full Empuraan script had been narrated to the lead actor and producer, dispelling rumors that they had been kept in the dark. Prithviraj emphasized that if he ever wanted to express his political opinions, he would do so openly on social media.

“If what I say is honest, there is nothing to fear,” he remarked, stressing that filmmaking should not be mistaken for political commentary.

The actor also spoke about the emotional toll of online harassment, pointing out that many colleagues and even authoritative figures have confided in him about the distress caused by online mobs. “There are people who told me about it while crying,” he said, criticizing those who participate in online attacks despite knowing the harm it causes.

During the Empuraan controversy, Major Ravi had suggested in a Facebook live session that Mohanlal had only watched the full movie after its release, indirectly hinting that Prithviraj had used the veteran actor to convey political messages.

Earlier, Mohanlal had also posted a public apology, expressing regret for any discomfort caused by the film. He stated that as an artist, it was his responsibility to ensure none of his films incite hatred toward any political ideology or religious group.
