Last week, the Telugu film industry was abuzz with news that felt almost unreal. Dil Raju, one of the most respected producers in Indian cinema, revealed that his banner, Sri Venkateswara Creations (SVC), had secured the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana distribution rights for Yash’s eagerly awaited film Toxic—and for a staggering Rs 120 crore.
Instantly, people wondered: was this a bold move, or just a clever PR stunt?
Speaking candidly during a promotional event for his upcoming film Markandeya, Dil Raju addressed the scepticism with characteristic calm.
When a reporter joked, “I don’t know whether to call you Dil Raju or Dare Raju, sir,” he smiled and said he was happy to be called either. Another reporter remarked, “Nobody would dare to invest Rs 120 crore to distribute a film as you’ve done for Toxic. A lot of people are shocked by it.”
Unfazed, Dil Raju responded simply, “I am ready for whatever you say.” When pressed further that the figure sounded like publicity, he reassured everyone, “Let me do one thing. For those who are doubtful, once I transfer the money, I will share my bank statement. Maybe people will believe me then.”
The deal itself is historic: SVC’s acquisition of Toxic marks its largest for a non-Telugu film to date. Several major players, including PVR Inox, were in the running for the rights, but it was Dil Raju who ultimately secured them.
“Yash stands as a formidable titan of Indian cinema, and post KGF 2, his market has only grown stronger across the world. The audience’s anticipation for his next film after KGF 2 has been building for a while now. With a four-year wait, the buzz and expectations around this film are massive. We at SVC are stoked to present this prestigious project and hope to continue collaborating with Yash on many more films,” he said, sharing the excitement behind the investment.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features a stellar ensemble including Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth.
Shot in Kannada and English, with plans for release across South Indian languages and Hindi, the film is set to face off against Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge on 19 March, making the Rs 120 crore deal feel like both a bold gamble and a vote of confidence in Yash’s pan-Indian appeal.
