Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor has expressed his excitement about portraying Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part film Ramayana. Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2024 in Saudi Arabia, the actor revealed that he has completed shooting for the first installment and will soon begin work on the second. Kapoor described the project as a monumental retelling of "India’s greatest story."

Scheduled for release during Diwali in 2026 and 2027, Ramayana is being produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios. While the official cast announcement is pending, reports suggest Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will take on the roles of Ram and Sita, respectively. Additionally, Yash, the star of the KGF franchise, recently hinted in an interview that he will be portraying Ravan in the film. Fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation from the makers.

Talking about the film and his experience, Ranbir said, "Just to be a part of that story, I am so humbled to essay Ram’s role. It’s a dream for me. It’s a film that has everything. It teaches what Indian culture is about — family and husband-wife dynamics. I’m very excited about that," the actor said.

The makers of Ramayana have described the film as a live-action adaptation of the iconic Hindu epic. In a press release last month, they shared that the project aims to bring one of India’s most beloved stories to life with unparalleled scale and visionary storytelling.

In an interview with the American publication Deadline, Ranbir Kapoor shared in-depth insights about the film. "It’s got artists, creators and different crew members from all around the world. It’s made over two parts. It’s the story of Lord Ram and Ravana and it’s India’s greatest story. And to tell it to this (story) to a new generation with the kind of technology that we have, it’s a very exciting and gratifying opportunity for me as an actor, especially to play the part of Lord Ram," he stated.

The 42-year-old actor shared updates on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal Park, the sequel to his 2023 hit Animal. He revealed that filming for Animal Park is slated to begin in 2027, and discussions are already underway for a third installment in the franchise. "I get to portray both the antagonist and protagonist, making it an incredibly exciting project under the guidance of a truly original director," he said.

Speaking about Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev, the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, he mentioned that the script is currently in development. Up next, Ranbir will feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, alongside his wife and Brahmastra co-star Alia Bhatt, as well as Vicky Kaushal, with whom he previously collaborated on Sanju.
