ZEE5 is set to bring a deeply emotional and intimate story to screens with its upcoming Hindi Original series Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz.

With the release of its trailer, the series has already struck a chord, promising a tender exploration of family bonds, unspoken expectations and the quiet courage it takes to choose your own path.

Set in the heart of Punjab, Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz unfolds over six episodes and centres on a relationship many will recognise — that of a father and son struggling to truly understand one another.

Produced by Rusk Media and directed by Ameet Guptha, the series stars Mihir Ahuja and Suvinder Vicky in lead roles and will premiere exclusively on Hindi ZEE5 on 6 February.

The story follows Ghuppi Singh, a 16-year-old boy who lives with a chronic stammer. His difficulty with speech often leaves him unheard, but inside, he carries dreams that pull him in a direction very different from his family’s legacy.

His father, Harminder Singh, is a respected Ragi singer who holds deep faith in tradition and discipline. To him, carrying forward devotional music is not just a profession, but a responsibility. For Ghuppi, however, freedom and self-expression arrive on the football field, not through hymns.

What Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz captures so sensitively is the space between love and pressure. As expectations tighten and emotions remain unspoken, both father and son are forced to confront their fears, disappointments and vulnerabilities.

The series asks a simple yet powerful question: is legacy something we inherit, or something we choose for ourselves?

Mihir Ahuja, speaking about his role, shared, “Ghuppi is one of the most vulnerable and honest characters I’ve played. His stammer isn’t just a speech condition—it reflects everything he struggles to express - fear, desire, ambition, and the need to be accepted. Shabad captures that pivotal moment in every young person’s life when you’re torn between being a good child and being true to yourself. I hope audiences see their own silent battles reflected in Ghuppi’s journey.”

Suvinder Vicky added, “Harminder is a father shaped by faith, discipline, and the fear of losing legacy. He truly believes he’s doing what’s best for his son, even when his love turns into pressure. What moved me about Shabad is that it doesn’t villainise parents—it shows how unspoken emotions and unrealised dreams influence our actions. This story is deeply rooted, emotional, and reflective of many Indian households.”

Director Ameet Guptha summed it up best, saying, “Shabad is a story about listening—to children, to parents, and to the silence that exists between them. It explores how love, when intertwined with expectation, can become pressure, and how empathy can heal what authority cannot.”

With its soulful setting, layered performances and emotional honesty, Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz promises to be a quietly powerful watch.

Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz premieres exclusively on ZEE5 on 6th February.
