Nitesh Tiwari says it will be difficult to remake Amar Akbar Anthony or Deewar: ‘Actors log ready nahi honge’

Director Nitesh Tiwari reflects on making remake of two classic films but claimed that the cast would not be ready to star in those films.

Bollywood director, Nitesh Tiwari, gearing up to make the upcoming film, Ramayana. However, the director has recently reflected on his filmmaking journey and a classic film that he would love to remake. He also shared the struggles to actually bring the remake to the screens.

During his latest appearance on the Game Changers podcast, director Nitesh Tiwari was asked to pick a 1970s film for a remake and whom he would cast in the movie. However, the filmmaker picked two classic films but claimed that the cast would not be ready to star in those films.

He said, “It would either be Amar Akbar Anthony or Deewar. But I don’t think I can cast for it today. Humare actors log ready nahi honge sir. Amar Akbar Anthony aur Deewar aj ki date main banana bohot difficult hai sir. (Our actors won’t get ready. In today’s time, it is very difficult to make Amar Akbar Anthony or Deewar).”

The cult classic Indian film, Amar Akbar Anthony, featured an iconic trio - Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan. The film was directed by Manmohan Desai.

Meanwhile, another classic, Deewar, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role, was penned by Salim-Javed. The film was directed by Yash Chopra, and it famously introduced the "angry young man" archetype to Hindi cinema.

On the work front, Nitesh Tiwari is currently busy directing the highly-anticipated film, Ramayana, which will be released in two parts. Ramayana Part One will hit the theatres in 2026, while the Part Two of the film is slated for 2027.

The film features an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. However, Ranbir Kapoor will star as Ram in the film. Sunny Deol will portray the role of Hanuman, Rakul Preet Singh will star as Surpanakha and Lara Dutta will star as Kaikeyi.
