Dussehra 2024 release 'Devara Part 1' stars NTR Jr in the title role. The film is the second collaboration between the 'RRR' megastar and writer-director Koratala Siva since the megahit 'Janatha Garage' came out eight years ago. While the release of 'Devara' is still 144 days away (slated for October 10, 2024), the first song from the Telugu film dropped on May 19, at 7.02 pm.
Indeed, the filmmakers had been drumming up excitement for the song launch days in advance, with the launch date and time announced on the official X (Twitter handle) of the movie that also stars Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Shine Tom Chacko and Narain alongside Jr NTR.
Anirudh Ravichander ('Why this Kolaveri Di?') is the music composer on this film, and has done the background score as well as soundtrack album. Anirudh is also the composer and singer of the Fear Song from 'Devara Part 1', and he is featured in the music video for the Fear Song alongside shots of NTR Jr wielding a variety of blades and striking fear in the hearts of his opponents.
The music video also offers some clues in terms of the story of 'Devara Part 1', a segment of which is shot on a sail ship and along bloodied beaches. The weaponry and shipping technology as well as the characters' garments indicate a period piece.
NTR Jr's display picture on X offers another cue: it displays a poster with the line: "When courage turns into a disease, fear is the only cure". Devara (NTR Jr.), then, it seems is set upon striking fear into the hearts of men whose courage has become a bane to others.
A few months ago, NTR Jr had also shared an early glimpse into the film, where stylized violence seemed to be the key language and currency of the epic saga (don't miss the blood spatter completing the arc of the crescent moon to make a full moon):
Coming back to the percussion-heavy Fear Song, the lyrics are by Ramajogayya Sastry, vocals by Anirudh Ravichander, keyboards, synth and rhythm programmed by Anirudh Ravichander, electric guitar by Keba Jeremiah, backing vocals by Saketh Komanduri, Arun Kaundinya, Ritesh G Rao, Saicharan Bhaskaruni, Chaitu Satsangi, Sumanas Kasula, J.V.Sudhanshu, Anirudh Suswaram, Arjun Vijay, Akhil Chandra, with backing vocals supervised by Sri Krishna.
Announced in 2021, 'Devara Part 1' started shooting on April 1, 2023, in Hyderabad before moving to Goa for some sequences. The film is pegged to have a lot of action sequences, including one shot underwater. The shooting ended in December 2023. The film is now in production.
