The iconic and bloody 90s horror slasher ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ is finally getting a legacy sequel via Columbia Pictures and is slated for a summer 2025 theatrical release.
Sony Pictures announced release of the film with the same name on Tuesday. The release date is 18 July, 2025.
The Netflix original ‘Do Revenge’ director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is set to direct the gory franchise’s reboot. The beloved stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are in talks to reprise their characters for the reboot.
The original ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle and Ryan Philippe. It was written by the writer of Wes Craven’s horror classic ‘Scream’, Kevin Williamson. It was based on a novel of the same name by Lois Duncan.
The original film’s official log line reads - “After a night of revelry, four friends accidentally run over a man and dump his body to conceal their secret, unaware that the following year brings a series of eerie events in their lives.”
The film grossed over $72 million, which led to numerous sequels, including 1998’s ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’ and 2006’s ‘I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer’. In 2021, Prime Video picked up the franchise and reimagined it as a series.
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr returned for the 1998 sequel ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’ so their chances of returning for this legacy sequel are not super less.
The reboot will be written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Sam Lansky. Neal Moritz will be producing.
There is no news regarding whether this film will release in India or not till now.
