Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi slams Bollywood people, says, "They are fake, they look for surnames, not talent”

Namashi Chakraborty, the youngest son of Bollywood legend Mithun Chakraborty, has made headlines with his blunt criticism of the Hindi film industry. In a recent interview on Who’s On Air with Kamlksh Shetty, the Bad Boy actor opened up about his personal experiences in Bollywood and the struggles faced by outsiders, including a candid take on nepotism and industry biases.

Namashi didn’t hold back when discussing how the industry treats talent today. “Bollywood people are very fake; my father is a great exception,” he stated.

He described Mithun Chakraborty as “down-to-earth, humble, and honest,” and someone who never let stardom affect his attitude. According to Namashi, despite being a massive star in his prime, his dad Mithun still behaves like a common man, setting himself apart from the so-called elite circles of Bollywood.

Namashi also shed light on a difficult chapter in his father’s career. “When his career was declining in the mid-90s, he did close to 100 low-budget action films in Ooty. He was called a B-grade actor,” Namashi recalled. He expressed disappointment that despite his father creating a parallel film industry of sorts, the mainstream media failed to acknowledge his contributions. “He made his own industry, but the media never supported that; they have their favourites,” he said.

The actor didn’t stop there. He touched on the insider vs. outsider debate that has become increasingly prominent in Bollywood discussions. “Bollywood has forgotten to give work to outsiders. Today, it’s all about who you know—your background, your surname, and your connections,” Namashi claimed.

He continued, “Back in the day, anybody who had talent could make it in the industry. Today, if a Mithun Chakraborty comes from Bengal, I don’t think Bollywood would be excited to launch him or give him a chance.”

Namashi concluded his criticism with a sharp observation: “We don’t look for talent; we look for surnames.” His words echo the sentiments of many who feel the industry is losing its essence by prioritizing connections over genuine ability.
