Veteran actor Anupam Kher is all set to portray Mahatma Gandhi in Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s upcoming historical drama, The Bengal Files.
Sharing a first look of his character on Instagram, Kher wrote, “Some roles change your thoughts, your habits, your inner self. Playing #GandhiJi is one such role. Sharing it with you all for the first time my character from @vivekagnihotri’s #TheBengalFiles! No prosthetics was used here! Jai Hind!” In the post, Kher is seen fully transformed as Gandhi Ji, showcasing his dedication to authentically representing the iconic leader.
The trailer of The Bengal Files is scheduled to release tomorrow, August 16, and the launch event will be held in Kolkata. Director Vivek Agnihotri will visit symbolic landmarks like Kalighat and Shahid Minar as part of the promotional activities, highlighting the film’s connection to the city and its historical context.
The Bengal Files marks the third installment in Agnihotri’s Files trilogy. The movie revisits the chilling events of Direct Action Day and the 1946 Calcutta killings, promising a gripping historical retelling. A new poster released by the director features a woman depicted as Durga Maa, adding to the film’s visual and symbolic depth.

The film is written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. It is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha.
