Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has reportedly received a show-cause notice from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) concerning an allegedly unauthorised ground-floor structure built on a plot in Erangle village, located in Malad.
According to a report by the Free Press Journal, the notice was issued under Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act and was dated May 10. In it, the civic body has asked Chakraborty to provide a valid explanation for the construction within seven days.
The notice further states that failure to respond with a satisfactory justification could lead to the demolition of the structure at the owner’s expense, along with possible legal proceedings.
A civic authority source stated, "During inspections near Hira devi Mandir in Erangle village, two one-plus-mezzanine-storey buildings, one ground-floor structure, and three temporary units made from bricks, wood, glass, and AC sheets. These structures have been built on the area without taking permission from the competent authority, for which a show cause notice has been issued to the actor."
Free Press Journal also reported that Mithun has refused to the claims and stated, "“I have no unauthorised structures. Notices have been sent to many, and we are sending our replies.”
Mithun Chakraborty's incident is not uncommon. According to reports, the BMC has identified over 100 unapproved buildings in the Madh region, many of which are bungalows that were allegedly built with forged layout plans. According to civic officials, a comprehensive effort is underway to demolish all such illegal constructions, with the goal of finishing the removals by the end of May.

These constructions were reportedly built using materials such as bricks, wood, glass, and asbestos-cement (AC) sheets, all without the necessary approvals from the competent authorities.
