Mimi Chakraborty has made history in Bengali cinema by becoming the first actor from the industry to wear a bikini on screen.

The bold look features in Raktabeej 2, the much-awaited film from director duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, which is scheduled to release this Durga Puja.

The moment has already created ripples thanks to the release of the song Choker Neele, where audiences caught their first glimpse of Chakraborty in this new avatar. Her appearance has immediately drawn comparisons to Bollywood celebrities Kiara Advani and Deepika Padukone, who have both made bikini fashion iconic in recent years.

For Bengali cinema, however, this marks a striking departure from tradition — and Chakraborty’s confidence has been widely noted as a sign of the industry’s growing willingness to embrace change.

As per India Today, for Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, the creative force behind Windows Productions, the move is as much about storytelling as it is about style. In a joint statement, they said: “Cinema is a reflection of society’s evolution. At Windows Productions, we believe in telling stories that are bold, meaningful, and relevant. Mimi’s fearless performance in Raktabeej 2 is a step towards breaking outdated taboos, empowering modern narratives while staying true to cinematic quality and commercial sensibility.”

The duo have long been recognised for walking the fine line between commercial appeal and socially rooted themes. Their previous success Bohurupi reinterpreted folklore in a way that struck a chord with both critics and audiences, while Aamar Boss explored the nuances of motherhood with unusual depth and sensitivity.

They seem to be prepared to push limits once more with Raktabeej 2.

The release of the film will serve as both a festive treat and a conversation starter about the evolution of Bengali cinema as Durga Puja draws near.

Raktabeej 2 is positioned to be more than just a follow-up; it is a statement about the direction the industry is taking, bold, grounded, and unafraid of risk.
