Mariah Carey cut off contact with sister Alison before her passing, despite knowing she was dying

Mariah Carey recently faced a double tragedy, losing both her mother, Patricia Carey, and her elder sister, Alison Carey, on the same day. The news, confirmed on August 26, 2024, shocked many, particularly due to the strained relationship Mariah had with Alison.

The siblings had a tumultuous past, and according to a close friend of Alison, Mariah had severed ties with her sister, contributing to Alison's anguish during her final days.

David Baker, a close friend and healthcare proxy for Alison, shared with DailyMail.com that Alison had been in hospice care for the past month, battling ill health. Despite knowing about Alison’s deteriorating condition, Mariah reportedly made no effort to reach out.

Baker revealed that Alison deeply yearned for her sister’s love and attention, especially during her final days. “Alison was hurt by the way she was treated by her mother and Mariah,” Baker said, adding, “But I know it was her dying wish to at least have one last conversation with Mariah.”

In another interview with The US Sun, Baker elaborated on Alison's feelings, stating that she was distressed over her 'baby sister' cutting off contact. Alison frequently expressed her sadness over the estrangement and wondered if Mariah or any family members would attend her funeral.

According to Baker, Alison had hoped for even a simple phone or video call from Mariah, which never came. He described Mariah’s lack of communication as a "callous rejection" that added to Alison's emotional pain.

Mariah has previously spoken about her relationship with Alison in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. In the book, she detailed the troubled history between them, alleging instances of betrayal, including drug-related issues and attempts by Alison to harm her.

Following the loss of her mother and sister, Mariah released a statement to People expressing her grief: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
