Malayalam actor Siddique, who is currently out on bail in connection with a rape case, has been granted permission by the Thiruvananthapuram First Class Judicial Magistrate Court to travel abroad for professional commitments.
As per the court’s order, Siddique is allowed to visit the UAE between September 19 and 24 and Qatar between October 13 and 18 to take part in film shoots and related events.
However, the court has kept one condition that he has to surrender his passport as soon as he returns after his work visits. As per reports, Siddique had earlier filed a petition and requested permission to travel abroad, stating that he was required to travel to fulfil his professional engagements.
Siddique was allegedly accused of rape by a young actress. She has accused the Hridayapoorvam actor of luring her with promises of film roles and then raping her.
According to her, the incident took place in 2016 at a hotel in Muscat. She claimed to have first met Siddique at the preview of one of his films at Nila Theatre, after which he invited her to the hotel on the pretext of discussing cinema opportunities.
The actress has since recorded her confidential statement before a special court team. Siddique has admitted that he did meet the complainant in Thiruvananthapuram but has strongly denied the allegations of rape. Earlier, his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the High Court, forcing him to go into hiding. Later, the Supreme Court intervened, staying his arrest and eventually granting him bail.
On the work front, Siddique was last seen in the Malayalam film Hridayapoorvam, which starred Mohanlal and was directed by Sathyan Anthikad.
