Despite a strong effort, Neeraj fell short of defending his gold medal, finishing with a best throw of 89.45 meters. He faced challenges with four consecutive foul throws, which impacted his chances of retaining the top spot. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold with a throw of 92.97 meters. Nevertheless, Neeraj's achievement of being the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event remains a significant milestone.
