Kannada director S Narayan has recently landed in legal trouble after his daughter-in-law, Pavithra, filed a dowry harassment case. She has registered the case against him at Bengaluru's Jnanabharathi Police Station.
According to The Times of India, the Bengaluru police have issued a notice to S Narayan, his wife Bhagyavati, and their son Pavan, directing them to appear for investigation.
Pavithra complained that she was forced to bring more dowry by her husband and in-laws. Pavitra also claimed in the reports that she was forced to work in order to care for him because her husband is unemployed. They left her in-laws' house and moved into a rented one a few months after getting married. But a year later, they returned.
The complaint stated, “Since Pavan hasn't completed his degree, he has no job. So, I started working to look after the family. Some time ago, he took Rs 1 lakh from me and Rs 75,000 from my mother to buy a car. Meanwhile, my husband's family started Kala Samrat Film Academy, and I pledged my mother's gold to help them financially."
She added in the complaint, "Later, the academy shut down. Again, they asked me for money, and I took a professional loan of Rs 10 lakh. They repaid only part of the money in monthly instalments and then stopped.”
She further claimed in her complaint that her father had given Pavan a gold ring worth more than Rs 1 lakh at the wedding. However, after a fight after their son's marriage, Narayan and Bhagyavati blamed her. In 2021, Pavitra and Pavan exchanged vows.
According to Kerala Kaumudi, Pavithra stated in her complaint that Narayan, Bhagyavati, and Pavan should be held accountable if anything were to happen to her. On Wednesday night, the police filed the case.
For the unversed, S Narayan made his directorial debut with the 1992 romantic drama Chaitrada Premanjali. His credits include Anuragada Alegalu, Megha Maale, Thavarina Thottilu, Bevu Bella, Surya Vamsha, Simhadriya Simha, Daksha, Na Panta Kano and Manasu Mallige, among others.
