Kangana Ranaut has recently addressed the delay in the release of her film Emergency which was originally scheduled for September 6. The film's release was postponed due to pending certification from the censor board, and the controversy surrounding it has added to the delay. Various Sikh organizations have voiced their opposition to the film, alleging that it portrays their community negatively.

At a News18 India Chaupal event in New Delhi, Kangana Ranaut shared her views on the situation. She emphasized that only a small group of people object to the film, while questioning the legitimacy of their objections. Kangana expressed strong opinions about Bhindranwale, a controversial figure in Sikh history. She stated, “It is our history which has been intentionally hidden. We are not told about this. Bhale logo ka zamaana nahi hai,” which translates to, “The time of good people has passed.”

She further elaborated, “My film is ready to be released. It has received certification from the censor board. 4 historians supervised our film. We have the proper documents. There is nothing wrong with my film. But some people call Bhindranwale a saint, revolutionary or a leader. They threatened via pleas (to ban her film). I have also received threats. Previous governments have declared Khalistanis as terrorists. He was not a saint who was sitting in a temple with an AK47.”

Kangana's remarks highlight her frustration with the ongoing protests against the film. She argued that the opposition comes from a small fraction of people and that the majority do not view Bhindranwale in a saintly light. She asserted, “Only some people have an objection to my film, they are also inciting others. I don’t think 99 percent of the people of Punjab consider Bhindranwale a saint. He is a terrorist and if he is a terrorist, my film should be released.”

The actress also mentioned the financial impact of the delay on her project. She revealed, “Till when will we continue to play safe? I do not think like this. I never thought people will have an objection to Bhindranwale being shown as a terrorist. I am being tortured. It is so embarrassing for me. We also faced losses. My movie was cancelled just 4 days back.”

In Emergency, Kangana not only stars in the lead role but also serves as the film’s director. The cast includes notable actors such as Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade. Shreyas Talpade portrays Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan. The late actor Satish Kaushik is featured as Former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Jagjivan Ram.

Despite the film’s completion and its certification from the censor board, it has faced calls for boycott and bans. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht have been vocal in their demands for an immediate ban, accusing the film of attempting to "character assassinate" Sikhs by presenting a negative portrayal.

Kangana’s statements reflect her determination to release the film despite the controversies and challenges. She remains steadfast in her belief that the film accurately represents historical figures and is ready to face the repercussions of its release.
