Swara Bhasker has opened up about an unexpected struggle from her time on Veere Di Wedding, revealing that the film’s glamorous demands left her feeling exposed, overwhelmed and far outside her comfort zone.
In a recent conversation, the Tanu Weds Manu actress admitted that shooting the chartbuster Tareefan, particularly stepping out in a deep-neck bodysuit — was one of the most challenging moments of her career.
She explained that the role was difficult not because of performance, but because of the pressure to look conventionally attractive at all times.
“The kind of actor I am, prepping for a role – body language, dialogue, lines, I can do that. But the most difficult thing for me to do are glamorous roles. My character in Veere Di Wedding was so much focused on glamour – clothes, looks, and a lot of pressure to lose weight and look sexy, hot,” she said.
Swara recalled that the constant expectation to look perfect took a toll on her.
“I feel like I have never been more stressed in my career than when I was doing that film. It was out of my depth. Luckily, Rhea was also the stylist of the film… Ultimately, it came out very well and the shoot was fun. I kept my own authenticity too… but the process was very hard for me.”
The actor then revisited the day she wore the now-famous bodysuit for the Tareefan shoot. Until then, she had never worn anything like it. “I remember when we were shooting Tareefan, I wore a bodysuit. I had heard what it was for the first time. It is basically a one piece swimming costume with a deep neck, along with heels or boots.”
But the real discomfort hit her when she had to walk from the vanity to the studio. “I said that I am half-naked, how will I walk to the studio like this? I asked for a towel and wrapped it around me, so it was hard for me,” she added.
Despite the pressure, Swara believes she managed to retain her individuality within a glam-heavy setup, and that honesty helped her character connect with the audience.
Swara Bhasker will next be seen in Mrs. Falani and Sheer Qorma, which are slated to release in 2026.
