Director Nag Ashwin has finally broken his silence on the much-awaited Kalki 2, the sequel to last year’s mythological sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD. But the news isn’t exactly what fans were hoping to hear.
After the first film stormed the box office in 2024, collecting over Rs 1000 crore and featuring a star-studded cast of Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the sequel was quickly announced. Since then, audiences have been buzzing for an update.
Nag Ashwin, however, says patience will be key. Speaking to reporters, the filmmaker admitted, “The actors have to come together. Some of the pre-visualized sequences and action sequences are much bigger. So it will take some time. I don’t have an exact answer. Everyone is busy.”
He hinted that fans might be looking at a 2–3 year wait before Kalki 2 sees the light of day. “Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years, that’s what I think,” Ashwin added, underscoring the scale of the spectacle.
At the 10th-anniversary celebration of his debut movie Yevade Subramanyam, the director confirmed that shooting preparations are underway and that filming is likely to kick off in December 2025.

He also teased that while the first film leaned heavily on Deepika and Bachchan’s arcs, the sequel will focus more on Prabhas. “The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters.”
With Santhosh Narayanan returning for music, Djordje Stojiljkovic handling cinematography, and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao on editing, the team remains intact. Considering the first film’s record-shattering run and accolades, including the Telangana Gaddar Film Award, expectations for Kalki 2 are sky-high.
For now, fans of Prabhas and the universe of Kalki will need to hold tight for next 2-3 years.
