IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack teaser released, promising high-stakes drama - watch

Netflix has unveiled a teaser for its upcoming limited series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, set to premiere on August 29. The series, created by Anubhav Sinha and Trishant Srivastava, shows the harrowing events of December 24, 1999, when Indian Airlines Flight IC 814 was hijacked and taken to Kandahar.

The gripping series is set over seven days, capturing the dramatic and high-stakes events that occured. Starring Vijay Varma, Patralekhaa, Pankaj Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Arvind Swami, and Dia Mirza, the show promises to offer a deep dive into the hijacking's know-all and the struggles faced by the passengers and crew. The cast also includes Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Amrita Puri, Anupam Tripathi, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Pooja Gor, Kanwaljit Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Sushant Singh, and Yashpal Sharma.

The series portrays the dramatic hijacking of Flight IC 814, which was en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi and diverted to Kandahar. The hijack, which lasted for seven days, saw the crew and passengers endure a lot of hardships while Indian officials worked tirelessly to secure their release.

Anubhav Sinha, known for his work on Mulk, Article 15, and Bheed, emphasized the importance of authenticity in telling this story.

Anubhav Sinha described the research process as revealing a ton of untold details about the hijacking, noting that while many remember parts of the event, the full extent of the story is less known. He highlighted the challenge of balancing factual accuracy with engaging storytelling.

Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, praised the series as a "thrilling, propulsive rendition of the longest hijacking in aviation history." She acknowledged the extended production timeline, which stretched from the initially promised eight months to two years, showing the meticulous effort involved in bringing the story to life.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is set to offer an immersive and dramatic portrayal of one of aviation's most challenging incidents, with a focus on both the human and procedural aspects of the crisis.
