Warner Bros. and Legendary are expanding their Minecraft franchise with a brand-new sequel. The untitled follow-up to A Minecraft Movie is set to hit theatres on July 23, 2027, the studio announced on Thursday.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Warner Bros. wrote, “Building terrain. See you in theaters July 23, 2027. #Minecraft.”
The announcement comes after the massive success of A Minecraft Movie, which premiered in April 2025.

Based on the hugely popular video game, the film became a worldwide hit, earning nearly $1 billion at the box office with an estimated $957 million in global earnings.
The official logline of the movie read as, "Four misfits are pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld, a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they'll have to master this world while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter.
Jared Hess, who directed the original, will return to helm the sequel and co-write the script with Chris Galletta, one of the writers from the first film.
Back in April, star Jason Momoa, 46, celebrated the movie’s record-breaking success on Instagram, saying, “All my Aloha to my incredible cast and crew! Thank you for all your hard work and all that you do. WE HAVE A RECORD BREAKING FILM BABY!!! Cheeeeeeeoooooo!”
The sequel’s producers include Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Jason Momoa himself.
The original movie featured a star-studded cast with Jack Black, Sebastian Hansen, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge in key roles.
