Rapper Rod Wave, whose real name is Rodarius Green, landed in legal trouble on the same day he was nominated for his first Grammy Award. The Great Gatsby hitmaker was arrested on drug and weapon charges by the Atlanta Police Department.
According to TMZ, the rapper was taken into custody on Friday, November 7, in Fulton County, Georgia and released on November 9. The rapper was charged with possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, reckless driving, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
The arrest came after he received his first Grammy nomination for Sinners on November 7.
However, Wave’s lawyer had issued an official statement following his arrest, claiming that the rapper was “unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta.”
The statement reads, “Mr Green was targeted as part of this quota-driven approach, a practice that undermines justice and erodes community trust.”
The statement further stated that they would contest Green's "baseless arrest" and bring the rights violations against him in court. The rapper was freed on November 9 after posting a $8,000 bond.
However, this is not the first time Rod Wave faced legal controversy.

Earlier this year, the rapper was briefly arrested in the Atlanta area on several charges involving weapons and property damage. But according to the rapper's attorneys, their client was wrongfully detained as a burglary victim.
