Joseph Quinn will not return in Stranger Things Season 5

Joseph Quinn’s character Eddie Munson died in Stranger Things Season 4 in the Upside Down world, but fans have been waiting for a magic or scientific experiment to bring him back to life.

However, the makers have bad news for Stranger Things fans. The Duffer brothers have recently confirmed that Joseph Quinn will not return in the final season of the hit Netflix show.

In a recent interview with Empire, Matt Duffer said, “I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead. Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.”

How did Eddie die in Stranger Things?

Joseph Quinn’s character, Eddie, a metalhead and outsider in high school, is killed by creatures in the Upside Down in season four after sacrificing himself to divert the Demobats' attention so that the other members of the group could battle Vecna.

Eddie’s death left the whole group, especially Dustin, devastated.

Meanwhile, since the release of Stranger Things season four in 2022, Quinn has been very busy. He has starred in films such as The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Gladiator II, Hoard, A Quiet Place: Day One, and Warfare.

Linda Hamilton’s new role

Elsewhere in the interview with Empire, Matt Duffer also hinted at Linda Hamilton's upcoming role in season five, where she will play Dr. Kay, a government agent on the hunt for Brown's Eleven.

He teased, “She’s hyper-intelligent and intimidating. She’s a scientist but if she needs to, she can get into a fight and shoot a gun.”

Stranger Things Season 5 cast

Although Joseph is not returning, several other cast members are confirmed to reprise their roles in Stranger Things Season 5 to battle with Vecna for the last time.

The returning cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Priah Ferguson, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, David Harbour, Winona Ryder and Brett Gelman.

Stranger Things Season 5 will be released in three parts: Volume 1 on November 26 (consisting of four episodes), Volume 2 on Christmas (three episodes) and The Finale on New Year’s Eve.
