After a four-year wait, Stranger Things is finally returning with its fifth and final season. Recently, the show’s creators revealed some important details about what fans can expect from the conclusion of the hit sci-fi thriller.
In an interview with Variety, creators Matt and Ross Duffer, along with Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria, shared updates about the final season, while keeping most of the plot under wraps.
They did confirm that Season 5 will deliver a complete and satisfying ending. The story will wrap up the fates of Hawkins, the beloved characters, the Mind Flayers, Demogorgons, Vecna, and, of course, the Upside Down.
The final episode will be released on December 31 and will run for two hours, longer than the usual episodes. Season 5 will have eight episodes in total, most lasting around an hour, with Episode 4 titled “Sorcerer” running 83 minutes. The finale, named “The Rightside Up,” promises to be both thrilling and emotional.
The season will feature 21 main actors appearing in most episodes. There will also be a significant time jump of 18 months from the end of Season 4. The Duffer Brothers shared that the season will be an emotional journey, as the actors, many of whom have grown up with the show, will be saying goodbye to both their characters and co-stars.
Ross Duffer added that the last 35–40 minutes of the finale will act as an emotional epilogue, focusing on the characters saying their goodbyes—mirroring the real-life farewells of the cast on set.
Fans should be ready for a season that promises to be both heart-pounding and tear-jerking, so it might be a good idea to have a box of tissues handy when watching Stranger Things Season 5.
