Jennifer Lopez cuts off Craig Melvin mid-interview when asked about her divorce with Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez recently handled an awkward moment with grace and humour when asked about her divorce from Ben Affleck during a promotional interview for her upcoming film Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Appearing on Monday’s episode of Today, the actress and singer was caught slightly off guard when host Craig Melvin pointed out that the filming of her new musical coincided with the finalisation of her divorce from Affleck, who also served as the film’s executive producer.

“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce is also finalized with Ben—” Melvin began, before Lopez interrupted with a light laugh, saying, “There you go.” As he tried to continue, she playfully added, “Look at this guy,” laughing off the moment.

Melvin then clarified, “But then I read that your ex is an executive producer on the film!” to which Lopez responded, “He is. If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have been made, and I will always give him that credit. You know, things happen.”

Reflecting on the film’s meaning, Jennifer said, “The movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art can save us during the hardest times in our lives. Doing this project was such a dream come true for me — it really got me through a very difficult moment.”

For context, Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021, nearly two decades after calling off their first engagement in 2002. The couple married in 2022, but Jennifer filed for divorce in August 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Their separation was finalized in January this year.
