Good Bad Ugly Movie Review

Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly marks his return to the mass swag genre the fans have been waiting for. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, this film marks the debut production for Mythri Movie Makers in Tamil.

The film has a stellar star cast, including Arjun Das, Sunil, Jackie Shroff, Satyajit Shinde, Yogi Babu, Priyanka Varrier, and Shine Tom Chacko. The film's music is composed by G.V. Prakash.

Ajith Kumar plays the role of a feared don who steps away from the mafia world to protect his family. His dark past keeps haunting him, and the kidnapping of his son forces him to confront his rivals. The crux of the story revolves around his determination to save his son and family despite overwhelming challenges.

Performances:

Just like almost every other Tamil film, Good Bad Ugly also follows the trope of the son in trouble, so the bad dad returns to save the child, as when his son gets in trouble, he returns to the Mafia world.

The film is highly dependent on Ajith's star power, his mass action dialogues and sequences and does not focus on the backstory of this mafia Don.

Ajith as Red Dragon AK dominates the screen from the beginning till the end, and his wife, played by Trisha Krishnan has nothing new to offer and is underutilised in this film.

Arjun Das, who plays the main antagonist of the film, has done an impressive job. Arjun needs no introduction and has once again demonstrated his abilities.

Analysis:

Good Bad Ugly is an absolute mass entertainer that is a treat to all the Ajith fans out there. The first half of the film begins with a gripping narrative, filled with high-energy action sequences that provide fans with an adrenaline rush.

In addition, it has numerous nostalgic scenes that transport the audience back to their childhood. The interval block works really well, and it prepares fans for an absolute roller coaster ride in the second half.

But unfortunately, the second half does not live up to the expectations and loses momentum after a point.

The storyline is high on action sequences but lacks emotional depth. The director seems to have worked on the elevation scenes more and not the actual story.

While some of the mass action moments work, few of them seem to be repetitive. The film completely lacks its main core, which is its storytelling point of view, the lack of emotional core and why we should root for the hero, and, obviously, the film consists of the never-ending slow-motion walks and gunfires.

Good Bad Ugly's strength lies in its sleek presentation, the funky look and costumes, the new kind of visuals, and everything that's needed for a cool action thriller drama film.

Abhinandam Ramanujam’s camera work and GV Prakash’s music are impressive. Mythri Movie Makers has splurged money on this project and the production values are great.

Verdict:

In short, Good Bad Ugly is a one-man show and is catered for Ajith's die-hard fans, and it does offer swag but lacks substance.

If you're a Thala Ajith fan who wants to see the mass hero back in action, then you can definitely catch this film in theaters near you.
