Television producer Ekta Kapoor had once sparked controversy after she took a jab at Ram Kapoor’s weight loss. She has now officially addressed the video and defended herself, suggesting it was not a jab.
In a recent India Today Conclave Mumbai 2025, Ekta shared that her social media post was personal and wasn't meant to be a critique of any specific person.
She shared, “This was exactly one week before I launched the Bade Achhe Lagte Hain promo, where the main character tries to fit into a medium. The promo was about body shaming, self-doubt, and self-assurance. Somehow, people took my post and spun it into something completely unrelated.”
She admitted that she was also left shocked when social media users started linking her video to Ram Kapoor.
She shared, “I don’t know where Ram Kapoor came into this. He’s not a woman, not on TV right now, and he’s actually lost a lot of weight. It’s like I’m talking about my hair, and someone says, ‘Oh, you called me bald.’ Why would I do that?”
What did Ekta Kapoor say about Ram Kapoor in the viral video?
Ekta Kapoor previously shared a video on her Instagram, which was speculated to be a jibe at Ram Kapoor’s weight loss transformation.
In the video, Ekta shared, “What do I do? I’ve gained a lot of weight. Should I do an anti-inflammatory diet? Mounjaro? Ozempic? All of the above? Zip my mouth? Ya chhod dun? Hum bade hi acche lagte hain (Or shall I leave it? Because I look good just the way I am)!”
The ‘bade hi acche lagte hain’ dialogue let the fans believe that she was talking about Ram Kapoor, as he had starred in the Television show of the same name.
Ram Kapoor's wife Gautami Kapoor called out Ekta Kapoor
Soon after Ekta Kapoor’s video went viral on social media, several critics started slamming her for her comment. Ram Kapoor’s wife, Gautami Kapoor, also gave a befitting reply to Ekta’s alleged indirect dig at her husband.
She shared a video on her Instagram and wrote, “Should I do an anti-inflammatory diet? Should I take Mounjaro? Should I take Ozempic (pharmaceutical drugs), or all of the above? Or should I just zip my mouth? But I think mere liye gym hi kaafi hai (For me, the gym is enough).”
She continued the troll and took a dig at Ekta’s show Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and said, “Kyunki humein bade nahi, chhote hi achhe lagte hain."
She penned in the caption, “Jisse jo pasand ho… use woh karne do (Let people do what they like) … live and let live… at the end, what matters is health, happiness, and peace."
Ekta Kapoor and Ram Kapoor have collaborated on successful projects like Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Kasamh Se.
