BTS’ beloved track Spring Day has finally ended its historic run on the MelOn Weekly Chart. The song, released back in February 2017, remained in the Top 100 for 3,136 days straight before dropping out on September 15. That’s more than eight years, 447 consecutive weeks, making it the longest-charting song in MelOn’s history.
For fans, better known as ARMY, the news feels like the closing of a chapter. Spring Day wasn’t just another release; it became a cultural touchstone, often described as “the song that never leaves the charts.”
A Legacy Beyond Numbers
Released as the lead single from BTS’ You Never Walk Alone album, a repackage of their 2016 record Wings, the track quickly grew into one of the group’s most celebrated songs. The alternative hip hop and pop rock ballad went on to win Song of the Year at the 2017 Melon Music Awards and the Digital Bonsang at the 32nd Golden Disc Awards, while also earning nominations for higher honors.
The track’s popularity spread across stages and borders. It secured four music show wins, dropped in a Japanese version in 2017, and even got a special SoundCloud remix in 2018.
The Meaning That Lingers
For years, Spring Day has been linked to the 2014 Sewol Ferry Disaster. BTS never confirmed that theory, though leader RM once acknowledged the speculation. “Many meanings can be drawn,” he said, leaving listeners to decide for themselves.

It's possible that the song's ambiguity contributed to its longevity by striking a chord with listeners during periods of grief, recovery, or even silent hope.
Even though Spring Day is no longer on the chart, it is still an indisputable part of BTS's history. Millions of fans will continue to be moved by the song even though its departure may signal the end of a historic run.
