Mumait Khan was a well-known face in the Indian film industry during the early 2000s, especially after her chart-topping dance number Dekh Le from Munnabhai MBBS became a massive hit. The song turned her into one of the most sought-after dancers in Bollywood, and she soon went on to work across multiple film industries. However, in 2016, one accident turned her life upside down, eventually leading her to leave Bollywood.

In a candid interview with iDream Media, Mumait opened up about the circumstances that led to her exit from Bollywood at the height of her career. Addressing long-standing assumptions about her disappearance from the screen, she recalled the severe accident that changed everything.

She said, “I didn’t leave the industry. I had an accident. Five nerves in my brain burst. Doctors told me not to work for at least seven years—even lifting anything was impossible. God made me Mumait Khan, and he himself put a full stop to it. I accepted it. I used those seven years to self-study.”

The actor revealed that the accident left her in a coma for 15 days, and her prolonged recovery meant she was unable to work for several years. During this period, her mother became her sole financial support, as Mumait focused entirely on healing and rebuilding her life.

Reflecting on those difficult years away from the limelight, Mumait shared that the break helped her discover a new passion. She explained how her love for makeup and hairstyling grew during her recovery phase.

“In those seven years, I had a lot of time to think about what I truly loved. I realised it was makeup and hair. In every film, every song, I never repeated a look. Every time, it was different,” she added.

This realisation eventually pushed her toward entrepreneurship, and Mumait went on to establish her own business in the beauty industry, which she says is now thriving. Looking back, she made it clear that she holds no regrets about stepping away from films, acknowledging that the decision was never in her hands and was shaped entirely by circumstances beyond her control.

Mumait Khan made her screen debut with a cameo in the Tamil film Majunu in 2001, followed by her Bollywood debut in Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai. Her popular dance number with Jimmy Sheirgill in Munnabhai MBBS the following year brought her nationwide recognition.

Over the next decade, she appeared in more than three dozen films across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. Her final on-screen appearances came around 2016, with the Hindi film Enemmy and the Telugu films Thikka and Dictator.
