Sonam Kapoor recently opened her heart to her followers as she shared moments from her 'Godh Bharai' calling it a celebration rooted in love, protection and gratitude.

The ceremony, often referred to as the “hair-parting ritual”, honours an expectant mother and the life she carries, and for Sonam Kapoor, it was far more than a tradition. It was a deeply personal moment surrounded by the people she loves most.

“Seemantonnayan the third of the sixteen sacred sanskars in Sanatan Dharma. Often called the ‘hair-parting ritual,’ it honours the mother and the life she carries,” Sonam Kapoor wrote.

She also acknowledged how the ritual is known by different names across India. “Known as Godh Bharai, Shrimant, Dohale Jevan, Shaad, Seemantham, Valaikappu, Seemantha, Pulikkudi and Sadhabhakshan across different parts of India — the names may change, but the blessing remains the same: love, protection and celebration of new life.”

The video from the ceremony radiates warmth. Sonam Kapoor appears relaxed and glowing, dressed in elegant traditional attire, smiling as friends and family gather around her. There is laughter, gentle rituals and an unmistakable sense of togetherness.

The décor — soft lighting and florals — adds to the intimate feel, but what truly stands out is the comfort and joy on Sonam Kapoor’s face.

“This ancient ritual felt even more meaningful because all my best friends in the world showed up for me. My whole family did too. I felt so held,” she shared. She also thanked the women who organised the day. “And to my mum, my mother-in-law, and my sister — thank you for organising everything and making me feel so deeply loved, cherished and celebrated. I will never forget this.”

Sonam Kapoor, who is expecting her second child with husband Anand Ahuja, recently celebrated with a baby shower as well. For the occasion, Sonam Kapoor chose a vibrant lime-green lehenga custom-made by designer Shehla Khan.

Crafted from soft mul fabric, the outfit featured hand-painted and hand-embroidered floral detailing. Sharing her gratitude, Sonam Kapoor wrote, "This look was made with so much love. Shehla created this soft mul custom outfit for me, hand-painted, hand-embroidered, and crafted with the kind of care that only comes from deep understanding and trust. Grateful beyond words for you, Shehla, and for my sister Rhea, who have stood by me unconditionally, always. It truly takes a village, and I’m endlessly thankful for mine"

Sonam Kapoor paired the lehenga with a flowing cape, proudly embracing her baby bump. With her hair styled in a middle-parted bun, layered gold jewellery, a small red bindi and a bold red lip, she looked radiant yet completely at ease.

Already mother to Vayu, Sonam Kapoor announced her second pregnancy just weeks ago.
