After the Valentine’s Day announcement of the upcoming romantic drama Heer Ranjha, there has been growing speculation about the film’s cast — especially reports suggesting that Rohit Saraf had been signed to play the legendary lover Ranjha. However, in an exclusive update, Hindustan Times has learned from sources close to the film’s development that Rohit is not yet locked for the role and no casting decisions have been officially finalised.
The film’s announcement, shared on 14 February 2026, revealed a concept teaser without any actors, alongside a message positioning Heer Ranjha as a continuation of the love-story legacy established by the earlier collaboration Laila Majnu. The new project is being directed by Sajid Ali and presented by Imtiaz Ali, with renowned producer Ektaa Kapoor backing the venture under her Balaji Telefilms banner.
Earlier Variety India had reported that Rohit was “locked” to portray Ranjha, but the latest update clarifies that this is not yet confirmed and that the makers plan to reveal the official cast only once all key roles have been decided. Production sources emphasised that although the film has ignited interest for its story and creative team, discussions around principal casting are still ongoing.
While the actors who will play the leads — both Heer and Ranjha — remain under wraps, the film’s early tease has already generated excitement among fans of modern romantic cinema. Heer Ranjha is positioned as a fresh take on the timeless Punjabi love saga, rooted in classic romance yet shaped for contemporary audiences. The production team has indicated that shooting will begin shortly after the cast is locked and formally announced.
Rohit Saraf, known for his roles in popular projects like Mismatched, Ishq Vishk Rebound and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, continues to be linked with high-profile work in both film and streaming content, though Heer Ranjha casting remains open.
