After almost 11 years away from the big screen, Imran Khan is finally back, and fans couldn’t be more excited. The actor made a stylish appearance at the premiere of Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos with his girlfriend, Lekha Washington, turning heads and raising anticipation for the film.
Imran Khan will be seen in a cameo in the movie, directed by Vir Das and produced by his uncle, Aamir Khan.
Speaking to NDTV, he revealed that joining the project came from a very relatable place: FOMO, or “fear of missing out.”
“It started, of course, with my uncle (Aamir Khan) getting attached as a producer. And I would hear little snippets here and there. And then Mithila, who I got to know because we acted together in Katti Batti—we've remained friends over the years. And she was telling me a lot of fun stuff about the way the project was going,” Imran Khan shared.
He added, “I immediately texted Vir Das, and I joined the film because all my friends were involved in it and it seemed like something fun to do.” For him, the cameo wasn’t just a return to acting—it was a chance to reconnect with friends and be part of a project that felt joyful and light-hearted.
Interestingly, his involvement was meant to be a well-kept secret. Imran Khan shot his scenes in early 2024, long before the trailer or promotional buzz, hoping audiences would be surprised by his appearance. “Literally the day I showed up to shoot, the news went out of me being the star of the film. Some enterprising individual photoshopped a poster with me on the cover. And this thing went out. We had totally thought that we should shoot quietly and tell no one about it. And on the day that the film releases, people will watch it and suddenly in the middle of the film, they'll go, ‘Hey, wait, it's that guy,’” he recalled with a laugh.

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos is a quirky spy-comedy following Vir Das as the hapless Happy Patel, a British-Indian agent mistaken for a real spy. The film weaves comedy, cultural clashes, and a touch of chaos, featuring Mona Singh, Mithila Palkar, Sharib Hashmi, Srushti Tawade, Imran Khan, and a special appearance by Aamir Khan.
