The Gujarat High Court has disposed of a petition challenging allegedly derogatory dialogue in the Bollywood film Dhurandhar, after the movie’s producers informed the court that the objectionable words had already been muted in the final version of the film. The order was passed on January 9, 2026, bringing an end to the legal dispute after the primary grievance cited by the petitioners was addressed.
The petition was filed by Yasin Allarakha Baloch and Ayub Balekhan Baloch, members of the Baloch community, who objected to a line spoken by a character portrayed by Sanjay Dutt in Dhurandhar, a film starring Ranveer Singh and released late last year. The petitioners said the dialogue, which negatively referenced the Baloch community, perpetuated stereotypes and hurt their sentiments, calling it derogatory and contemptuous. They sought a direction from the court to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the film’s producers to remove or permanently mute the line from all versions of the movie.
In response, the film’s legal team informed the bench that the specific words in question had already been muted in the film’s final cut. The counsel representing the petitioners did not dispute this claim in court. Given that the filmmakers had effectively addressed the core concern raised in the petition, the court determined that “no grievance survives” and disposed of the writ petition accordingly.
Inspired by actual events, Dhurandhar depicts an Indian spy who penetrates Pakistani criminal organizations to gather intelligence on possible attacks against India. While the film enjoys a remarkable theatrical run, it has been prohibited in all Gulf nations.
The cast includes Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, and Arjun Rampal in key roles. Produced by Dhar and his brother Lokesh Dhar through their B62 Studios, along with Jyoti Deshpande from Jio Studios, the film is set to release Part 2 in March 2026. This sequel will compete at the box office against Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups and Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit.
Regarding its box office performance, the film has grossed over Rs 1,000 crores globally. In India, it has earned more than Rs 830 crores, surpassing Pushpa 2 to become the highest-grossing Hindi film in Indian cinema.
