German actor Damian Hardung, best known for his role in the international young-adult series Maxton Hall, has expressed a growing affection for Indian cinema and culture, revealing that he would love to work in Bollywood someday. In an exclusive interview, Hardung opened up about his admiration for India’s vibrant movie culture, which he said is markedly different from Western traditions. He highlighted how Bollywood’s emotional storytelling and dramatic flair have captivated audiences worldwide — and inspired his own artistic curiosity.
Hardung described Indian cinema as a place where “emotions are elevated” and narratives are filled with heart, suggesting that this creative diversity is something he would be proud to explore professionally. His comments arrive amid a growing trend of international talent looking toward Bollywood as a space for cross-cultural collaboration and storytelling.
In a conversation with Etimes, he shared thoughts about working in Bollywood. "Would love to. I don't speak the language, unfortunately. But if there was ever like an international role for an English-speaking person, I would definitely consider it. When my mom was there, and my parents were there, they also told me that the culture of movie watching is just so different because apparently everyone in India was standing up in their seats, screaming at the screen, and throwing popcorn. They emotionally connect to the story. And I love that," he concludes.
When asked about love, he said, "Having this idea of true love not as ownership of someone or not of being responsible for someone, but of loving someone so deeply that if their path doesn't align with your own path, that's fine for you as well. I think that idea of true love that runs deeper than satisfying your own wants and needs, but really wanting the good for the other person, is something that I truly value in showcasing in the second season," he explains.
Beyond his cinematic aspirations, Hardung also spoke warmly about India as a country, praising its spiritual richness and the warmth of its people. He said that his personal experiences with Indian culture have helped him rethink his own views on love — favouring sincerity, depth and emotional connection over mere superficial romance. These reflections suggest that his interest in India goes beyond professional ambitions to include a deep appreciation for cultural and emotional values.
