Actor Alia Bhatt appears to be gearing up for yet another thoughtfully chosen role, one that promises emotional depth and strong storytelling.

Industry buzz suggests that she is set to headline Housewife, an upcoming drama to be directed by Abhishek Pathak, the filmmaker behind the successful Drishyam 2.

The film is expected to go on floors in 2026 and has already begun to draw attention for both its subject and its creative team.

According to a report by Variety India, Alia Bhatt is taking her time with the project, carefully aligning it with her busy schedule and weighing what the story demands from her as an actor.

Known for gravitating towards layered, character-driven narratives, she is said to be particularly drawn to the emotional core of Housewife.

In the film, Alia Bhatt will step into the role of a married woman, leading a story that explores the quiet complexities of domestic life and relationships in a modern setting.

At its heart, Housewife reportedly looks at marriage through a contemporary lens, focusing on how roles within a household are evolving, especially for women.

The film aims to strike a chord with today’s audiences by placing everyday family life and its unspoken challenges at centre stage. While the search for the male lead is still ongoing, conversations within the industry suggest growing excitement around the casting.

The report further notes that Rajkummar Rao is currently in talks to star opposite Alia Bhatt. Though nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the prospect of seeing the two share screen space for the first time has already sparked curiosity.

Adding another layer to the project, Alia Bhatt will also be involved as a co-producer through her production house, Eternal Sunshine Productions, partnering with Panorama Studios, led by Abhishek Pathak. Filming is expected to begin around August or September 2026, once Pathak wraps up work on Drishyam 3.

Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao is preparing for releases including the Netflix comedy Toaster and a biographical drama based on public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
