Music legend AR Rahman, who often preferred to keep his personal life out of the limelight, has found himself at the center of media attention following the announcement of his separation from his wife, Saira Banu. The couple, who had been married for 29 years, recently disclosed their decision to part ways.
AR Rahman took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) to address the situation and share his emotional reflections on their journey together.
Rahman confirmed the separation and expressed his deep feelings about the end of their long-lasting bond. He wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again.”

The music maestro’s heartfelt note reflected on the nearly three decades of his life spent with Saira. He acknowledged the pain of their parting while also expressing gratitude for the kindness and respect shown by their friends and supporters during this challenging time.
“To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter,” he added.
Despite his global fame and illustrious career, Rahman has always been known for his modesty and the effort he puts into keeping his family life private. This unexpected public disclosure has therefore come as a surprise to many of his fans and followers.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s marriage has been a source of admiration for many, seen as a union that withstood the test of time amid Rahman’s rise to international stardom. Over the years, the couple maintained a low profile, focusing on their family and Rahman’s musical endeavors.
Earlier, in a statement released on Tuesday night, Saira confirmed that she is parting ways with the iconic composer after nearly three decades of marriage. The statement read, "After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. A R. Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time."
