  • Amaal aims to break the stereotype of being known only as a song composer

Amaal Mallik has revealed that his career has taken an unexpected turn after his stint on Bigg Boss 19, with the composer now receiving multiple offers to act, particularly as an antagonist in South Indian films. In a recent interaction, Amaal spoke candidly about how the reality show changed public perception of him and opened doors he had not actively pursued before.

After finishing Bigg Boss 19 as the fourth runner-up, Amaal said audiences finally got to see him beyond his music.

“People saw a new side of me on television,” he shared, adding that the exposure helped casting teams view him differently. Amaal said that the offers coming his way are largely for negative roles, especially from the South film industry.

“Right now, I’m getting a lot of offers to play villain roles. People are telling me, ‘Why don’t you become the villain in a South movie?’” he said.

While the idea of acting excites him, Amaal is clear that he does not want to limit himself to just being in front of the camera.

He revealed that if he takes up an acting role, he would also like to handle the music and background score for his character.

“So I’m saying if I am doing a movie, agar wo central character hai, then I would also like to do the score. Because I am really good at BGM,” he explained.

Amaal also spoke about how he feels people often box him in as only a song composer, ignoring his broader body of work.

“People know me only for songs, but I have done 47 films with the biggest composers and scored for them. Hero ki entry, villain ki entry, main sab bana sakta hu,” he said, stressing that background scores and thematic music are as much his strength as chart-topping songs.

The composer added that he wants to keep one clear condition if he steps into acting. “So ek condition rakhne ki koshish hogi ki jahaan main face rahunga, wahaan ka music and score bhi main karunga,” he said, noting that he understands cinema music deeply and knows how sound can elevate scenes and emotions.

During the conversation, Amaal cited filmmakers like Vishal Bhardwaj and Sanjay Leela Bhansali as inspirations, pointing out that they successfully balance multiple creative roles. He believes he can do the same by acting while also contributing musically to the story he is part of.

Reflecting on why he joined Bigg Boss 19 in the first place, Amaal previously told Hindustan Times, “I didn’t just say yes. I said YES.” He explained that while people knew his music, they did not really know him as a person. Adding a lighter note, he joked about often being confused with his brother or other actors, saying, “I want people to know this is Amaal Mallik, not Armaan Malik.”
