Unnao Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting date, results, candidates, main parties and schedule

Uttar Pradesh 2024 Lok Sabha Polls: Once a stronghold of the Congress, this region witnessed a shift in the political landscape in the early 1990s when the BJP not only solidified its position here but also across the state. This time, incumbent Sakshi Maharaj takes on Annu Tandon of the SP and Ashok Kumar Pandey of BSP.

The Unnao Lok Sabha constituency, positioned between Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow and the industrial city of Kanpur, holds significant political importance. Globally recognized for its leather business owing to its proximity to Kanpur city, Unnao boasts a unique identity. According to the 2011 census, the total population of the Unnao Lok Sabha constituency is 3,108,367, with 82.9% residing in rural areas and 17.1% in urban areas.

The constituency comprises a Scheduled Caste population of 30.52%. It consists of six Vidhan Sabha seats - Mohan, Unnao, Bangarmau, Safipur, Bhagwantnagar, and Purwa, with Safipur and Mohan reserved for the Scheduled Caste category.

Once a stronghold of the Congress, this region witnessed a shift in the political landscape in the early 1990s when the BJP not only solidified its position here but also across the state. Since independence until 2019, the parliamentary history of the Unnao constituency has seen 16 Lok Sabha elections and one by-election. Among these, Congress emerged victorious nine times, while BJP secured victory four times. The Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Janata Party each won once.

In 2024, Unnao is voting during Phase IV of the General Elections on May 13.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Sakshi Maharaj from the BJP emerged victorious in the Unnao constituency, securing a significant margin of 400,956 votes. Sakshi Maharaj garnered 703,507 votes, commanding a vote share of 57.00%, and defeated Arun Shanker Shukla from the SP, who received 302,551 votes, with a vote share of 24.45%.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Sakshi Maharaj from the BJP emerged victorious in the Unnao constituency. She received 518,834 votes, commanding a vote share of 43.17%. The SP candidate, Arun Shankar Shukla, secured 208,661 votes, with a vote share of 17.36%, making him the runner-up. Sakshi Maharaj defeated Arun Shankar Shukla by a substantial margin of 310,173 votes.

This time, incumbent Sakshi Maharaj takes on Annu Tandon of the SP and Ashok Kumar Pandey of BSP.
