The industrial city of Kanpur, situated on the banks of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, earned the moniker "Manchester of the East" owing to its thriving textile industry in the past. The Kanpur parliamentary constituency comprises five assembly seats: Govind Nagar, Sisamau, Arya Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, and Kanpur Cantt. According to the 2011 census, the total population of the Kanpur Lok Sabha seat is 2,226,317, with the Scheduled Caste population at 11.72% and the Scheduled Tribe population at 0.12%. In addition to Brahmin, Vaishya, and Muslim voters, Punjabi voters also wield significant influence in the constituency.

Kanpur is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. It votes on May 13, during Phase IV of the General Elections. Results will be declared on June 4.

In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Satyadev Pachauri, representing the BJP, emerged as the winner of the Kanpur constituency. He secured 468,937 votes, while Sriprakash Jaiswal of the INC received 313,003 votes. Satyadev Pachauri achieved a landslide victory with a remarkable margin of 155,934 votes.

In the Kanpur Lok Sabha election of 2014, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi of the BJP emerged victorious with 474,712 votes. The runner-up candidate was Sriprakash Jaiswal of the INC, who garnered 251,766 votes. In total, there were 835,125 registered voters in Kanpur in 2014.

The Lok Sabha polls for 2024 are underway, showcasing a fierce competition between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party.

The ongoing Lok Sabha election is making history as the largest-ever election, surpassing even the 2019 Indian general polls. Spanning a duration of 44 days, it ranks second only to the 1951–52 national elections in terms of length.

Approximately 970 million people out of a population of 1.4 billion are eligible to cast their votes, signifying the magnitude and significance of this democratic exercise.
