'Whites failed SAT exam when black people started setting paper...': Rahul Gandhi's analogy goes viral

While some users praised the Congress leader for attempting to clarify the concept of merit through affirmative action, others slammed Rahul, suggesting that he could have chosen a simpler analogy as the example appeared overly complex.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is once again attracting attention for allegedly sharing a story about the SAT exam in the United States. In a viral video on social media, Gandhi is shown telling a group of individuals that "whites failed the SAT exam when the black people started preparing the question paper."

In a recent video, the Congress leader was seen explaining the concepts of merit, reservation, and affirmative action to a group of individuals, citing a Latin American story as an analogy. Rahul stated that success in an exam is influenced by who holds the authority to set the standards.

However, in a controversial statement, he suggested, "If you are suggesting that Dalits fail exams designed by upper castes, then let's reverse the roles: let Dalits create the exam papers and challenge the upper castes to take the exams."

“Who takes the call about what is merit? I’ll tell you a small story. There was a beautiful experiment. Just like we have IITs, in America, they have the SAT exams. When the SAT was first implemented, a strange thing happened. All the whites in America were topping. But the blacks or those who were speaking Spanish were not doing so well," said the Wayanad MP.

"Merit depends on who controls the system," Rahul can be seen speaking in the video.

The video is, however, currently being widely circulated on social media platform X. While some users praised the Congress leader for attempting to clarify the concept of merit through affirmative action, others slammed Rahul, suggesting that he could have chosen a simpler analogy as the example appeared overly complex.

He is mostly facing criticism on microblogging site X for allegedly "fabricating stories to create divide".

"Rahul Gandhi completely fabricates the story about the SAT exams and Blacks. He is out to destroy IIT-JEE too. Get out to vote or he will destroy whatever excellence we have in India," wrote an X user.

"Who told him the story that in USA, all the whites failed the SAT because exam was set by blacks? In fact, there is no official passing or failing grade on the SAT. And, how can one compare SAT with JEE or IIT? Such false stories & dreams will destroy the Education System," lashed out another user.

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a widely recognised standardised test for college admissions in the United States.
