The South Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency, established in 1966 and designated as constituency number 7, holds a significant place in Delhi's political landscape. With a population of 2,733,752 according to the 2011 Census of India, it is one of the most densely populated areas in Delhi, with an estimated 10,935 inhabitants per square kilometer. The constituency covers vast areas and includes notable landmarks and neighborhoods, making it a focal point for both political activity and historical significance.
South Delhi is composed of 10 assembly constituencies as per the 2008 order of the Delimitation Commission: Bijwasan, Deoli, Kalkaji, Palam, Ambedkar Nagar, Tughlakabad, Mehrauli, Sangam Vihar, Badarpur, and Chhatarpur. These areas are home to a diverse population and cover significant urban and suburban regions, including Munirka, Begumpur, Zia Sarai, Katwaria Sarai, Badarpur, Mandi Gaon, Hauz Khas Village, Lado Sarai, Ber Sarai, and CR Park.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri maintained his hold on the South Delhi seat, defeating AAP's Raghav Chadha by a significant margin of 3,67,043 votes. Bidhuri secured 6,87,014 votes, while Chadha received 3,19,971 votes. In the 2014 elections, Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP emerged victorious against AAP's Colonel Devinder Sehrawat, garnering 4,97,980 votes compared to Sehrawat's 3,90,980 votes. Congress's Ramesh Kumar came third with 1,25,213 votes. The 2009 elections saw a contest between Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP and Ramesh Kumar of the Congress. Ramesh Kumar won with 3,60,278 votes, defeating Bidhuri who received 2,67,059 votes by a margin of 93,219 votes.
As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, South Delhi remains a key constituency to watch. The upcoming election will be held in a single phase on May 25, as part of the sixth phase of the seven-phase general election. The contest is expected to be fierce, reflecting the broader political dynamics and voter sentiments in Delhi.
