With Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's public address in Delhi's Seelampur clearly setting the tone for a triangular contest in the upcoming Delhi elections, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday unequivocally blamed the grand old party for failing to understand the bigger aim of the INDIA grouping.
Responding to mediapersons, AAP leader's statement came hours after NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar remarked: "In Delhi assembly elections, my feeling is that we should help Arvind Kejriwal..."
Elaborating on Sharad Pawar's statement, Singh added that INDIA grouping is of the view that not only Delhi, but throughout India, the alliance should work with a singular aim of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party. "Unfortunately the largest party-- Congress, which should understand the objectives of the grouping, fails to understand its role and has showcased on multiple instances that they are not willing to accommodate stronger regional players while stitching up regional calculations. This has proved to be hindrance for the bloc," added Singh.
"In Haryana, the Congress does not fight under united INDIA grouping, they are putting pressure for the upcoming state polls in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, whereby they fail to give due seats to stronger regional outfits and are unwilling to partner with regional players. Sharad Pawar has understood this phenomenon and hence he said what he said," remarked Singh.
Sharad Pawar's NCP is the third party in the opposition alliance, after Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, to offer support to Kejriwal over Congress in Delhi elections.
