According to Vinay Pradhan, Country Manager & Senior Director, India & South Asia, Udemy, this momentum is more than a trend—it reflects a deeper shift in how India is approaching skill-building.

“With over 16.5 million learners and 9,000 instructors in India, Udemy's AI-enabled platform is accelerating the shift toward a skills-based economy. As technology continues to evolve, we're seeing a strong demand for upskilling in areas like language systems, communication, and data-driven decision-making. Subjects such as Large Language Models and T-SQL, along with tools like Unity and Oracle Fusion HCM, are gaining significant traction among professionals looking to stay competitive.

Today's workforce needs rapid, flexible learning paths that go beyond traditional boundaries—spanning technical fields like architectural design and automotive engineering to critical soft skills like leadership and management. We're also harnessing AI to deliver dynamic, interactive learning experiences that build essential leadership and communication skills for today's business environment. The rise of AI is not just changing what we learn, but how we learn—making skills development more flexible, personalized, and aligned to the pace of change.”

India’s surge in learning also mirrors a broader global appetite for tech-driven education. In the United States, AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate courses saw an astonishing 346% increase. The UK leaned into ISTQB Foundation Level certifications, while Japan showed a sharp focus on AI-adjacent skills like Prompt Engineering and platforms like Dify. Meanwhile, Brazil and Spain reported strong growth in AI, English, and ChatGPT training—highlighting an international race toward digital fluency and AI-readiness.

What sets India apart, however, is its balanced approach. While tech and AI courses are surging, soft skills haven’t taken a backseat. Management Skills training grew by 46%, suggesting that Indian professionals are also doubling down on leadership and communication—critical differentiators in an increasingly hybrid and collaborative work environment.

The takeaway? As AI transforms the global workforce, India isn’t just adapting—it’s leading the charge. With digital platforms acting as enablers and a workforce eager to evolve, the country is fast emerging as a hub for next-gen skills and digital readiness.
