The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the provisional answer key for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026, Session 1. This key pertains specifically to the B.E./B.Tech (Paper 1) examination held in January 2026. Alongside the answer key, the agency has also uploaded candidates' recorded response sheets and the question papers, initiating a crucial window for answer key challenges.
Candidates who appeared for the JEE Main 2026 January session can now access the provisional answer key on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The process to raise objections is entirely online and will remain active for a limited period.
Challenge Period: February 4 to February 6, 2026 (up to 11:50 PM).
Applicable Paper: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) from Session 1.
Fee per Challenge: A non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 per questioned answer.
Payment Modes: Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking. The payment gateway will close on February 6 at 11:50 PM. No challenges will be accepted without the fee payment or after the deadline.
How to challenge the JEE Main Answer Key 2026?
Candidates wishing to dispute an answer must follow a defined procedure:
Step 1. Visit the official JEE Main website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Step 2. Click on the 'Challenge(s) regarding Answer Key' link.
Step 3. Log in using the application number and password.
Step 4. Navigate to the challenge section to view the question IDs for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
Step 5. Select the desired alternative Option ID for the question being challenged.
Step 6. Upload supporting documents in a single PDF file, if any.
Step 7. Save the claim and proceed to payment of the requisite fee.

Aspirants must review their recorded responses carefully against the provisional answer key. The NTA has clarified that if a challenge is found correct, the answer key will be revised universally for all candidates. The result will be prepared based on the final answer key.
