Guruji Student Credit Card

The Guruji Student Credit Card scheme, a flagship initiative of the Jharkhand government, is set for a significant expansion in the new year. The program, which now offers education loans of up to Rs. 15 lakh, is at the heart of the state's ambitious strategy to bridge the higher education gap and empower students from all backgrounds.

With Jharkhand’s Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education standing at 17%, notably below the national average of 27.3%, the state has launched a multi-pronged approach. The target is clear: achieve a 30% GER in the coming years and reach 50% by 2035. The Guruji Student Credit Card is a critical financial pillar in this transformative vision.

The Guruji Student Credit Card scheme is designed to ensure that no student in Jharkhand is deprived of quality higher education due to financial constraints. Available to students who have passed their 10th or 12th-grade examinations, the scheme provides a lifeline for pursuing courses at premier institutions across India.

Key features of the scheme include:

  • Maximum Loan Amount: Rs 15 Lakh
  • Interest Rate: A highly subsidized simple interest rate of 4% per annum.
  • Repayment Tenure: A generous 15-year repayment window, beginning one year after course completion and securing employment.

According to recent data, the initiative has drawn strong interest with 2,530 applications received. Of these, 858 have been approved, with loans sanctioned for 733 students and disbursed to 129 beneficiaries. The government is actively processing the remaining 1,370 pending applications to accelerate support.

The expansion of the Guruji Student Credit Card is part of a larger, comprehensive plan to revolutionize Jharkhand’s higher education landscape. The state government has announced a series of landmark initiatives:

Inclusive University: Plans are finalized to establish a dedicated university for persons with disabilities and orphaned students, ensuring equitable access to education.

New Universities & Colleges: The process is underway to set up three new state universities in Jamshedpur, Gumla, and Sahebganj. Additionally, 16 new degree colleges will be established across various regions.

Specialized Institutions: Jharkhand will see the establishment of a Skill University, a Research University, and a Tribal University, catering to diverse academic and professional aspirations.

Revival of Oriental Studies: Three Sanskrit schools in Ranchi, Deoghar, and Chaibasa will be developed into premier centers for Oriental studies.

Modernization: A core focus will be on developing all universities and colleges into state-of-the-art institutions with world-class infrastructure and facilities.

The Jharkhand government is moving from announcement to action, with departmental processes initiated for these projects. The synergy between financial aid through the Guruji Student Credit Card and the creation of robust educational infrastructure is expected to be a game-changer.

Students and parents are encouraged to explore the benefits of the Guruji Student Credit Card scheme through official state channels and partnering banks, as the government works diligently to implement these promises on the ground.
