The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has opened the application window for the much-anticipated Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment drive. Starting today, January 27, 2026, eligible candidates can apply for 78 SI posts in the state’s Prohibition, Excise, and Registration Department.

The application process will remain active on the commission's official portal, bpssc.bih.nic.in, until February 27, 2026. This recruitment, widely known as the Bihar Daroga Bharti 2026, introduces a demanding physical efficiency test, including a timed 1.6 km (one-mile) run, as a key qualifying stage.

Key Highlights of the BPSSC SI 2026

Aspiring candidates must hold a graduation degree in any discipline. The age limit varies by category, calculated as of August 1, 2025. For General category men, the age bracket is 20-37 years, while women in the same category can apply up to 40 years. More relaxed upper age limits apply for Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes.

The selection will be a rigorous three-phase process consisting of a Preliminary Exam, a Main Written Exam, and a mandatory Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

Focus on Physical Standards and Running Test

A significant aspect of this recruitment is the emphasis on physical prowess. Candidates must meet specific height and chest measurement standards. The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is a decisive hurdle, where male candidates must complete a one-mile run (approximately 1.6 km) within 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Female candidates have a target of completing a one-kilometer run within 6 minutes. Additional tests include high jump, long jump, and shot put.

Exam Pattern and Final Merit

The Preliminary Exam will be a qualifying screening test on General Knowledge. Candidates who qualify will face the Main Exam, which includes a qualifying paper in General Hindi and a merit-based paper on General Studies, Science, and Mental Ability.

Critically, 0.2 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer in both written exams. The final selection merit list will be prepared solely based on the marks obtained in the Main Exam's second paper, provided the candidate successfully clears the PET.

Prospective applicants are advised to visit the official BPSSC website for detailed information and to complete their registration before the deadline. With a structured but challenging selection procedure, this recruitment drive promises to select highly capable individuals for Bihar's police force.
