A 23-year-old house surgeon working at a government hospital in Telangana’s Siddipet died by suicide while undergoing treatment on Sunday, police said.
The woman, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste community, was found unconscious on the hospital premises on Saturday.
According to Siddipet 3 Town police, she was immediately taken for treatment at the Siddipet government hospital, where she was posted.
As her condition worsened, she was later shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad. Despite efforts by doctors, she died during treatment on Sunday, TOI reported.
During the investigation, police learned that the young doctor was in a relationship with a man who had allegedly promised to marry her. However, he later refused, citing caste differences, police said.
Following a complaint lodged by the woman’s family, a case was registered against the man. He has since been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said the woman came from a poor family, with both her parents working as daily-wage labourers. Further investigation into the circumstances leading to her death is ongoing.
In a separate incident, a 14-year-old boy died by suicide at his home in Gowlidoddi, Hyderabad on Sunday evening. According to a complaint filed with the Gachibowli police, the boy’s father, D Mohan, who works as a watchman, said the incident occurred after the child was allegedly reprimanded by his mother.
The father told police that his wife had asked their son to arrange his schoolbag for the next day. After some time, when she went into the bedroom, she found him unresponsive. She immediately informed her husband, but by the time he reached home, the boy had already died.
