Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday cancelled over 150 flights after issuing an advisory to passengers, warning of possible disruption to flight schedules because of dense fog in the capital.
Dense fog in the early morning hours across Delhi and parts of northern India continued to affect visibility on Friday.
Meanwhile, IndiGo has cancelled 90 flights across India, though it has not specified the reason for the cancellations. According to the IndiGo website, 53 Delhi flights were cancelled on Friday, including 27 departures and 26 arrivals.
Here are the top updates from the Delhi airport:
- For the day, 79 departures, including two international, and 73 arrivals, including two international flights, are cancelled today.
- IndiGo 6E6787 Delhi-Mumbai flight delayed by 8.4 hrs. It was supposed to depart at 12.30 am.
- Air India AI2885 Delhi-Chennai delayed by 6 hrs 30 mins. It was scheduled to fly at 2.10am.
- The Delhi-Pune flight which was schelueld to depart at 2.15 am took off at 5.30 am, a delay of more than 3 hours.
- Ministry of Civil Aviation posted on X: "Due to prevailing fog conditions in parts of Northern India, airport operations may be impacted. Passengers are requested to remain in contact with their airlines, check official platforms for updates, and allow extra time for travel. Passenger facilitation teams are available at airports to support travellers."
In a travel advisory issued at 8 am, the Delhi Airport said operations were currently being conducted under CAT-III conditions, a low-visibility protocol.

IndiGo issued a travel advisory at 9 am on Friday, warning passengers of possible disruptions to flight operations due to low visibility and dense fog conditions. The airline said the adverse weather may continue to impact flight schedules, including delays and cancellations.

"Delhi and several parts of northern/eastern India are currently experiencing reduced visibility due to fog, impacting flight schedules. Customers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport and allow extra time for travel, as low visibility may lead to slower traffic on the roads," the airline posted on X.
A Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) official confirmed that 27 flights operated by multiple carriers were cancelled on Thursday, while several others faced delays owing to poor visibility caused by thick fog.
CAT-III refers to a category of instrument landing system (ILS) that permits aircraft to land when runway visual range drops to between 50 and 200 metres due to adverse weather such as fog, rain or snow.
