Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has dismissed social media claims that he was shot at during a visit to West Delhi’s Khyala and Vishnu Garden areas, calling the reports “completely false”.
“There is a rumour going around about a firing targeting me. It’s completely false,” Sirsa posted on X (formerly Twitter). The Delhi Police later confirmed that no such incident occurred.
Officers said the confusion arose when a metal piece, initially resembling an empty cartridge, was spotted on a street during Sirsa’s morning rounds in Khyala. Upon closer inspection, it was identified as part of a sewing machine.
“The area was scanned and any kind of (shooting) incident has been ruled out,” a senior police officer was quoted by Live Mint.
The false alarm comes amid ongoing political tensions after Sirsa recently referred to slum dwellers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as “Rohingyas” – a remark that drew sharp criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). On June 30, AAP leaders staged a protest outside Sirsa’s Rajouri Garden office, demanding his removal from the Delhi Cabinet.
As per Live Mint, Sirsa, however, doubled down, accusing AAP of supporting “infiltrators”. “Kejriwal ji has as much affection for Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators as he has anger for those who oppose them,” he said. Earlier, he had alleged that such migrants “commit crimes everywhere” and vowed their “establishments will be demolished”.
